About PlanYourTrip

PlanYourTrip is a free online travel planner for round trips. Whether it's a road trip through Europe, an Interrail adventure, backpacking in Southeast Asia, or a journey around the world — PlanYourTrip helps you plan your route, find inspiration, and document your travel experiences. Over 28,000 travelers are already using the platform in seven languages.

How It All Began

In 2013, Marc Bellmann participated in the Mongol Rally — a charity rally from Europe to Mongolia. With a Renault Twingo, he traveled through 16 countries to Central Asia. A whole year of preparation went into this trip, planned with spreadsheets and text documents. It worked but was cumbersome. After the rally, the idea emerged: a tool that makes travel planning easier and more organized. At the end of 2013, PlanYourTrip was created as a hobby project — and it has been growing with each trip since.

What PlanYourTrip Offers

In the Travel Planner, you visually design your round trip on a map: create stages, adjust the order, find accommodations and transport. Need ideas for your next destination? Under Trip Inspiration, you’ll find over 400 pre-planned sample round trips in 21 categories — from Northern Europe to Southeast Asia, from classic road trips to backpacking routes. Each trip can be taken as a template and customized.

With the Travel Map, you track the countries you’ve visited and collect country points according to the system of the Travelers' Century Club — over 320 destinations worldwide. And with the Community function, you can plan trips together with friends and share your experiences.

The Mind Behind It

Behind PlanYourTrip is Marc Bellmann, a software developer from Leipzig. Since a study abroad semester in Scotland in 2010, he has been bitten by the travel bug. He built the entire platform alone and continues to develop it to this day. Learn more about Marc and his travels on his personal page.

Funding

PlanYourTrip is free — and that should stay that way. The platform is financed through affiliate partnerships with Booking.com, Expedia, Omio, and Skyscanner. When you book a hotel or buy tickets through PlanYourTrip, we receive a small commission. This doesn't cost you anything extra. It allows us to operate the platform independently and avoid annoying banner ads.
